Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Pseudomembranous Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are intestinal disorders. Also called ileitis or enteritis, crohn's disease causes inflammation of the ileum due to which there is pain and discomfort in the lower sections of the digestive tract. Crohn's disease can lead to the intestines becoming sensitive and sore due to diarrhea. Ulcerative colitis is caused due to the inflammation of the intestinal lining. The intestinal lining is punctuated with ulcers, either scattered throughout or in the form of clusters. The large intestine -- when affected by the disorder -- may pose symptoms of diarrhea with stools being loose and slim in consistency also making the stool color green. Pseudomembranous colitis is the inflammation of the colon when an individual is administered with antibiotics. It may also be caused due to the overgrowth of the bacterium called C. difficile. These intestinal disorders may cause the stool to turn green in color with the consistency being very loose.
The above given green stool causes are not harmful and can be treated very easily. But if you are observing green color stool for more than three days then consult a doctor immediately. You can also go through stool color chart if you are observing any other color in the stool apart from green. So, observe your stool regularly. It may sound a nasty job but it can be a symptom of some fatal disease. Find the reason behind the change in stool color and try to solve the problem in the initial stage to avoid complications.
A child's digestive system is very sensitive to different foods. The most common cause of food poisoning in children is E.coli. This bacterial infection can lead to dark green or light green stools. If the child suffers from abdominal cramps, fever and green stool is visible for three consecutive days, take your child to a doctor.
Mineral oil lubricates the stool, thereby facilitating smooth passage of stool and lowering the risk of injury to the rectum and/or anus. It is recommended that mineral oil be consumed at bedtime. In severe cases, it can be consumed with hot water. Don't expect instant results. Expect bowel movement only after 6 to 8 hours of taking mineral oil.
