Frequent passing of yellow stool may be a sign of medical condition. People diagnosed with acid reflux disease (GERD) often experience yellow-color stool. It is observed that when food particles pass through the digestive tract rapidly, thus, resulting in decreased absorption of useful nutrients. Other possible causes for yellow stool are bacterial infection and low amount of bile in stool.
Constipation is a common health problem that can affect people of all age groups. It is characterized by difficult and infrequent evacuation of bowels. One of the common symptoms of this condition is passing dry and hard stools. If the stools have become very hard and dry, it may cause injury to the anus and the rectum. In severe cases, it can also lead to bleeding. The use of natural stool softeners can certainly prove beneficial in case of pregnant women.
Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Pseudomembranous Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are intestinal disorders. Also called ileitis or enteritis, crohn's disease causes inflammation of the ileum due to which there is pain and discomfort in the lower sections of the digestive tract. Crohn's disease can lead to the intestines becoming sensitive and sore due to diarrhea. Ulcerative colitis is caused due to the inflammation of the intestinal lining. The intestinal lining is punctuated with ulcers, either scattered throughout or in the form of clusters. The large intestine -- when affected by the disorder -- may pose symptoms of diarrhea with stools being loose and slim in consistency also making the stool color green. Pseudomembranous colitis is the inflammation of the colon when an individual is administered with antibiotics. It may also be caused due to the overgrowth of the bacterium called C. difficile. These intestinal disorders may cause the stool to turn green in color with the consistency being very loose.
The food that we eat can also influence the color of the poop. Green vegetables in the diet is necessary for optimal health. Eating green vegetables in large amounts everyday is unlikely to damage your health but this habit can produce a harmless side effect that manifests in the form of green bowel movement.
