The bowel movement of a healthy individual is usually yellowish-brown in color. It comprises undigested food particles, intestinal bacteria, waste material, and water. However, occasional instances of spotting dark brown, green, black, or reddish-colored feces is also normal.
Frequent passing of yellow stool may be a sign of medical condition. People diagnosed with acid reflux disease (GERD) often experience yellow-color stool. It is observed that when food particles pass through the digestive tract rapidly, thus, resulting in decreased absorption of useful nutrients. Other possible causes for yellow stool are bacterial infection and low amount of bile in stool.
Sometimes, the stool softener may loosen the bowels too much, so that it results in watery stool or diarrhea. This again, may lead to dehydration. Drinking adequate water may help cure the condition. However, you may take a physician's opinion on whether to continue the treatment or not.
