Pregnant women must consume food items that are rich in fiber. They must include fresh fruits and vegetables in their diet, as these are the best sources of dietary fiber. Along with fruits and vegetables, they must consume whole grains, oats, barley, cereals, brown rice, whole wheat bread, etc.
People suffering from constipation should drink more water, because the higher the water content in the body, the more moisture content one's stool will have, thereby resulting in softer stool. Add some barley leaves to water and boil. Drink this concoction every 3 hours, to obtain relief from constipation problems.
Allergic reaction as a stool softener side effect is not common. However, some of the affected people may report it, in rare cases. Allergies are in the form of hives, skin rashes, swelling of hands, and tongue, etc. If the allergic response is accompanied by difficulty in breathing, you may need to call emergency services.
